Osmotic pump procedure

An osmotic pump is an implantable, passive therapy infusion device. Flow rates depend on the model of pump and osmotic pressures. Devices are single use with infusion durations ranging from one day to a maximum of six weeks. However, serial implantation facilitates longer durations. Osmotic pumps rely osmotic displacement to diffuse the therapy; the osmotic layer expands, compressing the reservoir, diffusing the therapy out from the pump at the controlled rate.
